It was mid-day the crew had been seeking the mark of Atenvelt shores since the glows of pink and orange first crested the sea horizon that day. They had passed two merchant ships departing from Port Estrella earlier that day. This information meant that land ho could not be far away. Normally the Captain would have raided the merchant ships for booty but today he had different plans. Get to Estrella dock supply and prepare for the crews once a year ground fight. Much is at stake as pirates they did not care for being allies with any monarchy but if the land of Atenvelt falls to the kingdom of Caid then their wenches and children whom reside there would most likely be uprooted from their homes to never be found again by the scallywag crew.
The spotter Puck called down to the captain from the crows nest."Captain Gannett There seems to be another ship approaching."
"Aye probably another merchant ship." replied the captain.
"No Captain, I can see the Atenvelt colors"
"Aye " Said the Captain. "Pull down the Jolly Rodger and simply keep the Sea Dog colors hoisted high."
"What is your plan?" asked first mate Marcus the Black
"If dat be da ship I think it is than they will not fight. They know why we are here and that they need us."
Time ticked by and the ships mast grew on the horizon like a foreboding demon sneaking up for a bite. All the crew knew that the Captain was gambling with their very lives.
"Just in case boys have all muskets, cap and balls, as well as cannons at da ready. Leave the sails high but have a hand sitting at the anchor brake as well we must be ready for anything." The Captain tried to ease the mind of his crew that he was prepared. "Hawk take the helm Marcus and I are going to the bow to greet our naval ship." Even the Captain was nervous. There were three ships that guard the port of Estrella. The first was the Admiral a man who hated Pirates and would just assume die than fight along side one. The second was the admirals friend whom the Sea Dog ship had battled in the past leaving both ships in bad disrepair cleaning lots of blood. The third was Gannetts old school chum who had spent many childhood days learning the sailors ways with the captain from their fathers who were Captain and First Mate together aboard the Queen of Atenvelt a naval ship that Gannetts frind is now Captain of. The odds were three to one but Gannett knew his friend would be looking for him so his odds were better. As the ship approached Gannett knew it was indeed his old friend as the ship hailed the signal flag.
