The Associates

Original song by Lord Sanzio Sansovino

(chorus)
I am an associate, I serve a peer of the realm.
Whenever work needs to be done, I'll assume the helm.
Whether yellow, red or green,
put one on you'll see what I mean.
The jobs of an associate can sometimes overwhelm.

Proteges wear yellow belts, the Pelican's who they serve.
And they are sought after just to serve.
They work from dawn till night,
and they sometimes evern fight,
and they think that the slackers have some nerve.
They are often sought as Autocrats because they are the best,
and as Feastcrats, they'll feed you till you're full.
They often get the shaft,
point first and then the haft,
and some think a peerage they don't deserve - BULL!

Apprentices wear green belts, the laurel's who they serve,
they make the world more beautiful to see.
for the sciences and arts
are forefront in their hearts,
and a laurel is what they aspire to be.
They can often be seen wearing the finest garb,
from a period painting that they found.
Their underdressings made of silk,
for outerwear, velvet's their ilk,
and they often only wear it once and put it down.

Squires wear red belts, their master is a knight.
and their work only begins with a sword.
While working like a slave,
they're expected to behave,
and no matter what the circumstances, always keep their word.
Squires are expected to look dashing on the field,
especially when they're armored up to fight.
and it's not just the garb,
on which you worked so hard,
because your armor's gotta shine, if you ever wanna be a knight.

(chorus)

Associates work hardest within the SCA.
I'm someone that knows, take it from me.
While Protege's are working hard,
and apprentice's are looking the part,
a squire should be fighting, but instead they do all three.
So if a Pelican asks you to be a Protege, I'd say yes,
if a Laurel wants you as an apprentice, go ahead,
but if approached by a Sire,
that wants to make you a squire,
remember as you contemplate, that squires wear blood red.

(chorus)
