Description:
The Brotherhood of The Templer's or 'Poor Brotherhood of Christ' was a monastic order of fighters founded in 1112 A.D. to protect the pilgrims along the path from Europe to the Holy Lands (Jerusalem). They took a vow of poverty which was rare for fighters, and had to supply themselves with armor and weapons.
The Templer’s were organized as a monastic order, following a rule created for them by lord William Balien Akin of Trimaris. The Templer’s were well connected and quickly became prime movers in the international politics of the Crusades period. In time, they were endowed with several extraordinary Papal bulls that permitted them; accept tithing in the areas under their direct control, facilitating their quick rise to institutional power.
Some brothers were devoted solely to preservation, as the Order was often trusted with precious goods by participants in the Crusades. But the majority of the Templer’s were dedicated to warfare. It was primarily a military order directly responsible only to the Chief Cardinal. Some consider the Brotherhood to be the forerunner of the modern professional army and elite special forces units. The Templer’s used their wealth to construct numerous fortifications throughout the Kingdoms and was probably the best trained and disciplined fighting units of their day.
