I was 'requested' by HRM Deidre to write a song for Meridies, as we were all gathered round listening to [Sanzio] and I sing our bardic asses off, Many were centered around our Shire, and HRM asked me if I had anything for Meridies. Embarrased, I said no, but I shall make sure to add one to my repoitoire. She said that it was not an 'order' but a 'loving request' for me to not only write a song for Meridies, but to perform it at Crown List 2007 in the Queen's Bardic Competition. So, of course, I am going to have to.. even if I REALLY did not want to enter the contest...I'm just not that confident in my bardic abilities, when guys like Sanzio don't even NEED paper or pencil to remember what he just made up, and I can't remember my songs even when the words are RIGHT in front of me...Anyway, So here it is..

**UPDATE** I did not win the Bardic competition (you should have seen the competition! Outstanding performances all around) I really could not think to win with such great bards performing as they did.. It was an honor to be among them. That was enough for me. However, though I did not win the competition, my song generated MUCH interest and so with that, perhaps I did better than win the competition, I made a song that people want to use. :)

**UPDATE** Since this posting, I have now been asked by HRM Maximillian to submit it to the Kingdom to be used as the official Marching song of Meridies, Therefore, there is now a link below (apologies for the low quality) to listen to the lyrics and tune, so that others may learn it by Gulf Wars as per HRM's request.

**UPDATE** The king has requested the voice of [Sanzio] to be added as accompanyment, as well as drums and or marching feet. I do not have the latter, but will find a way to do it. The king was very pleased with the tune, and is now awaiting the final version.

On to Glory

With sword in hand I march the tune
to die for crown and kingdom
beneath the flag of black and white
I march to glory's calling
I march to glory's calling

[Chorus]
Follow me my brothers true
Follow me to vict'ry
And Should I fall beneath the blue
I'll stand watch 'til you join me
I'll stand watch 'til you join me

The mighty justice of my king
be all the forge that fires us
the gentle guidance of my queen
be the light that shall inspire us
I March to glory's calling

[Chorus]
Follow me my brothers true
Follow me to vict'ry
And Should I fall beneath the blue
I'll stand watch 'til you join me
I'll stand watch 'til you join me

with flag in hand I strike the blue
and command my brothers forward
my spear is stained my helmet scarred
my heart will never cower
we march to glory's calling

[Chorus]
Follow me my brothers true
Follow me to vict'ry
And Should I fall beneath the blue
I'll stand watch 'til you join me
I'll stand watch 'til you join me

with sword in hand we have won the war
and died for crown and Kingdom
our standard flies still high and proud
we've marched to glory's calling
we've marched to glory's calling

[Chorus]
Follow me my brothers true
Follow me to vict'ry
For those who fell beneath the blue
Stand watch until I join you
Stand watch until I join you

We've marched to glory's call

Listen to the Melody Here

(12/5/07 - Added Sanzio's Accompyment, and now with a simple drum beat, as per HRM Max's request, keeping it simple.)

Don't download it yet, it is NOT the final version..we're working on it.. the drums sound like crapola....

Thanks to [hedda] for providing the transferral program to make the .mp3

2007-11-05 [hedda]: I hit a mace through the head of the evil American patent oppression and MP3-encoded the stuff with http://www2.arnes.si/~mmilut/BladeEnc.html

The 0.95 MByte file should be good enough for anyone who isn't an audiophile. And I think even the audiophile will have a much bigger problem with other sound-problems than the encoding <img:stuff/sly.jpg>

2007-11-05 [hedda]: I really like this song, by the way! And I usually don't like ballads, so it must be really good... Or not a ballad <img:stuff/smile.jpg>

2007-11-05 [Valgardr]: THANKS! that is awesome!! :D :D :D

2007-11-05 [Valgardr]: I've been asked to modify it again, to add drums and marching.. but i can't find anything suitable.. :(

2007-11-07 [hedda]: I asked on MusMakers to see if there is someone interested.

2007-11-07 [Valgardr]: i have another version now.. with an accompanied voice of [Sanzio] If i up load it, can you put it like you did this one? I don't have the software to convert it. :(

2007-11-08 [hedda]: I can fix it, but I gave you the link above:
http://www2.arnes.si/~mmilut/BladeEnc.html
It's really small and quick to download.
Then it (possibly) breaks American patent laws, yada yada... It's a free, open source legal program though.

2007-11-08 [Valgardr]: fixed. :) Thanks [hedda]

2007-11-08 [hedda]: It's a really easy melody to learn, but the lyrics are hideous... I can easily sing along if I have the lyrics, but without them, I think it would take forever to learn the things like first two "I march to glory's calling", then one, then one "we march to glory's calling" then two "we marched to glory's calling" and then one "We've marched to glory's call".

It's good because it makes the tune more interesting, but it demands a lot of the singers.

2007-11-08 [hedda]: So... Now you only need bagpipes and drums! <img:stuff/medieval.gif>

2007-11-09 [Valgardr]: actually, marching and drums..no bagpipes.. not a scottish song wouldn't fit.. :D imo, and as far as the progression, one must only remember that the song is also a story,, and after each set of stanzas there is a progression, alone at first, then with brothers, then the current, then the past tense.. :)

2007-12-07 [hedda]: The drum doesn't fit. Maybe it takes some time to get used to, but it just adds noise and the song is better without it. Its sound is like someone hitting a table, and I don't like it.

I know absolutely nothing about music, so I can't really put words on it, but the drum disturbs the music instead of driving it. Is the drums added afterwards and you sang without the drum? It really sounds like that.

2007-12-07 [Sanzio]: Bastion, sounds good. I must agree with hedda, though, and I know why you did it that way mostly because I was there, but I was late. To let the rest of the known world that wasn't at Crown list know what's going on, the drum that was used presenting this song to his Majesty Maximillian was Sir Rodger's boot on the pavement. The song is to be a march, so the drum is more to signify the footfalls of the troops, and any who decide to bring their drums to march the army in. So, while the drum might not sound spectacular, it is a necessary evil in this case. When the army is marching, and all voices are lent to Bastion's, either during the entire song or just at the Chorus, the effect will be awe inspiring.

Sanzio

2007-12-08 [hedda]: Well, the version without the drum is quite good, and I'm pretty sure you eventually will make it sound nicely with a drum too.

2007-12-09 [Valgardr]: i may have to re record it with a metronome so that the tempo doesn't change and flux while I sing.. that was part of the reason i didn't like the drums.. they have since published it on the meridian website so now it's official.. as far as refinements, I will have to see what happens..

2007-12-10 [hedda]: Well, do as I: Work fast and release often <img:stuff/smile.jpg>

2007-12-10 [Valgardr]: i'm tryin.. LOL

2009-07-01 [Crow]: Excuse me, is there a way I could get a version of the songs with just both voices?

I'd really love to tinker with it.

Please sent to carsonfb@bellsouth.net if you have it.

Thanks abunch!

Hail Meridies!
