al-Sahid Anniversary

March 29, 2008

Join us at Al-Sahid’s Anniversary, where we once again attempt to answer the question: “How old are we really?” We may actually know this time thanks to our Seneschal’s detective skills, which unearthed “27 years” since we were founded as a Canton, and “15 years” since we became a Shire. So come and share our 15th Shire birthday with us in a lighthearted spring celebration at lush, green Schmidt Park in Victorville, California. In spite of the Shire Scorpion, the only scorpions at the park are the ones on our banners.

Shire champions will be chosen by tournaments in Heavy Weapons and Rapier, and our traditional spring melee will make its usual serious homage to cuddly creatures and candies. There will be children’s activities, too.

Dessert Competition and the Challenger for the Iron Chef Contest: Every year, Al-Sahid has the honor of hosting Highland War and its popular Iron Chef contest. In the past we have selected the challenger to compete against the reigning champion, but we would like to give an opportunity to entrants to compete for the challenger position. So at our Anniversary we will have a dessert-only qualifying contest open to all! The winner will be the challenger for Iron Chef at the next Highland War.

Basic rules:
1. You must be present at both Al Sahid’s Anniversary and at Highland War.
2. You must use the following ingredient in your dessert entry. The secret ingredient is chosen by Her Majesty...Drum Rolls Please... the item is SAFFRON.
3. IMPORTANT: Make the dessert at home and bring it with you. (Note that the Iron Chef contest is cooked on-site at Highland War. We are giving you a break here.)
4. One entry per person, NO TEAMS.
