Tales of Arenal:Make a Wish Prince for a Day

Make a Wish: Prince for a Day:

There are those children who have suffered the misfortune of having an illness which can limit their enjoyment of life and even threaten to shorten it. For these children and their families, the Make-a-Wish Foundation has for years been there to provide help and support these special children.

Arenal was honored to work with “Make-a-Wish” and fulfill the dream of a young boy who loved the stories of Knights and dragons and chivalry by hosting an event where this youngster was to be our “Prince for the Day”.

On the Saturday of the event, the boy and his family arrived at the Langley Bell 4-H Camp and were immediately treated like the royal family they were to be for the day.

Our young Prince was introduced to everyone and, with his mother supervising, was whisked away to a cabin where he changed into the costume that had been tailored for him by the ladies of Arenal.

To the great surprise of his family, the entire family was provided costumes for the day and all treat with respect and courtesy as befits a royal family. A special chair had been made for the Prince with his new coat-of-arms. Lord Harold of Barth, the group’s Herald had designed a set of arms and displayed it upon the chair and other items which were presented during the day.

The young prince was then introduced to his older (and larger) Royal Cousin, Prince Gareth of Meridies who had accepted an invitation to attend the event. Both then oversaw the opening ceremonies to begin the tourney at the list field while the ladies of Arenal made sure that his parents and siblings were being entertained.

Throughout the day, many individuals paid homage to our young prince and present gifts from painted goblets to a custom metal fighting helmet from Ld. Harold, a toy castle filled with knights and much more.

Feast was a joy filled event with our young prince at High Table with the Meridian Prince and his family at the adjoining table.

Music and dancing filled the evening, and when the prince and his family departed for home, he was carrying his helmet and giving hugs to everyone. And we felt well rewarded.

Our young friend did recover from his illness and the harsh treatments he had to undergo. The last we heard from his parents was he was doing fine and living his life to the full, and always said he had to act like a knight would act.

And we felt well rewarded.
