Subject: Writing a History for a Kingdom? |
My husband and I live in Ansteorra. Robert is wanting to write the "History of Ansteorra" so that we do not lose the stories, memories, facts... as the old timers pass on. He has been thinking about doing this as a WIKI so that everyone within Ansteorra can put in their stories and views.
The way this would work (ideally) would be the posting of all awards given out ever. Then, since awards are linked to events, the events would be posted and anyone could post to the event wiki. This would lead to the non-event bits of history wikis... This, in theory, would put in all the history there is with in the Kingdom.
His fear is that something controversial would be posted - because it is actual history - and it would start up the bad feelings that had finally been quieted (not necessarily resolved, just quieted). This is a hard thing to think about because there has been some very ugly bits of history, personal and otherwise.
The question is, is it worth the possibility of drudging up the hurt and anger? How do you keep everyone encouraged even though the true history of the kingdom is harsh?
What do you all think? He is needing some thoughts and suggestions... I say it should be written, but somethings should done in a "non-finger pointing" view. Such as, In Barony Hoo-Ha where there was many problems with Baron and Baroness So-So. In a moment of anger, the Crown suggested they step down and they said they quit. Instead of saying they were "removed" or "quit", say something to the effect of "The Baron and Baroness So-So were no longer Baron and Baroness, Who-Who was put in as Vicar until a new Baron and Baroness were chosen." This does not put in the ugly details, but it does show the actual history of what happened.
What do you think?
