It's quite simple actually.
If the trebuchet is on wheels, the counterweight will fall more straight down, and therefore fall faster, and therefore the arm will move up and forward faster.
Think of it as if the counterweight on a non-moving trebuchet is a ball rolling down a slope, and the counterweight on a wheeled trebuchet is an almost free falling ball.
And even if it seems like a wheeled trebuchet moves a lot, it's actually moving less than a non-wheeled one, because the counterweight is so heavy compared to the rest of the construction. |
